I want to start off by saying that I respect the members of the NYPD, and the men and women who serve our local precinct, the 114th. However after what happened this weekend, it has left me with some questions.

To start off, I got home from doing my taxes and saw a man in front of my home standing beside his bike and looking either intoxicated or drunk. I keep driving to park my car in the back and think nothing of it until I come inside and see he is still out there.

Now at this point, he looks like he's is trying to sit on something and realizes that nothing is there and stands up. I call into 911, afraid that he might fall and hurt himself or worse, fall into the street and get hit by a car. Lo-and-behold, my neighbors had already called.

When dispatch asked how does he look, I responded with "Right now, the way he is standing looks like he is trying to take a shit."

Thirty minutes go by and cops still have not arrived. My neighbors called two more times and at one point were told that cops did respond. Yet, in actuality, no one came. To make mattters worse, the guy got back on his bike started pedaling down 21st street as a cop car drives by, yet doesn't do anything.

Luckily, he didn't bother any of the people who passed. I would think though that after four calls to the police department, one saying "he has his penis out" would do something...but guess not. Sorry for the long post, just wanted to make everyone else aware or maybe someone else saw the same guy I did on saturday and wants to share.

Editor's Note 2: this is not the guy he was referring to, but it is a rather hilarious drunk dude and a bike.

I called them once for a car alarm on my block that had been going off for hours - it took them about a half hour to show up, but that's pretty reasonable when you consider it was more an annoyance call than an emergency call.  They were pleasant and helpful (and successfully shut the alarm off!)

See Jen, that's the difference between a good cop and a bad cop.  Not all cops are good not all cops are bad.  Just like everything else in this world :)

To be fair, they're not always unresponsive.  I've had two incidences where I called the cops because of a mentally ill person screaming obscenities at passers by and they came both times.

They were busy busting 15 year olds jumping subway turnstiles. Relax. More revenue to be made ticketing the parents of kids who can't afford to buy subway passes. #safetyfirst

I agree with Demetrios, however.  I had a stalker that stole my info from his job where I order food from and was knocking my door ringing my bell once in the afternoon then another time at MIDNIGHT.  I called the cops because I was so scared.. they didn't take me too serious..  They told me I should have told the dude no and to go away via my window.  Yes they were right about that..  The one thing they did NOT do was offer for me to file a complaint.  This way if he came back it would have been reported already.  Now that's the difference between a good cop and a bad cop.  They were at the end of their shift and just wanted to go home instead of staying a bit later filing a report.

So other than this man being drunk, what was he doing? Interesting that this person describes how the person stood and how he tried to sit but nothing about his genitals being visible until the end... was he actually showing his genitals or was this simply a lie to try to get the officers to respond? if his genitals were out, was he trying to harm or flash someone or was he simply urinating and maybe being a tad annoying? I can't see anything in here that explains why the officers should respond to this person's call before responding to calls of actual danger.

While the 114 -has- had its share of missteps, this doesn't appear to be one of them.

Stop calling 911 with nonsense complaints...If everyone called 911 every time they saw a drunk person, the system would crash. If the dude wasn't bothering anybody or breaking any laws, let him be. Police officers are not babysitters. With all the cutbacks this city has made, they cannot and will not respond to nonsense like this, and I don't blame them.
