Top Headlines of the Week:
FRIDAY Sunny, warm
Veg-heads, beware. This weekend, Astoria will embrace the aroma of the other white meat. Porkfest kicks off tonight in a big way. Tonight should be the best night to go as they'll have authentic live music to aid digestion.
Art House Astoria invites all performers (and aspiring performers) to Salon Night. Bring a poem, sing a song, play an instrument--or just take it all in. No charge.
A music project called Helium will be performed tonight. The concept is to bring together Jazz musicians from around the world to produce transcendent music. Brian Adler, a classically trained percussionist formed the project and will be performing tonight in Astoria.
SATURDAY Sunny, warm
There's a great art program for kids ages 2-4 on Saturday called Art for Tots. This session will focus on animal in art and allow children and their families to explore the galleries while creating new art.
One of Astoria's most-talked about Italian spots has a brunch that doesn't get much mention. For just $13, you can enjoy brunch plus unlimited morning cocktails.
There's a big night of music on Saturday at one of our favorite dives. Beecher's Fault headlines the night with support from bluegrass band, Some Assembly Required, and Michael Barry.
SUNDAY Cloudy, cool
There's a food swap event on Sunday afternoon that brings together localvores and chefs. Bring in any homemade food item to trade off with others.
There's a free screening (with paid museum admission) of the behind-the-scenes boxing documentary Klitschko. It first screened at Tribeca and tells the story of two Ukrainian brothers who become star athletes.
This marks the third year of Froduce, a comedy and variety night in nearby LIC. Admission is free and the bar is one of our favorites. If you haven't been, this is a good time to check it out with no school on Monday.
