Top Headlines of the Week:
FRIDAY (partly cloudy, windy)
The Jim Henson exhibit at the MoMI has extended its stay. Take advantage of Free Admission Fridays and see first hand, the work of one of our generation's most influential creative geniuses.
Catch the live jazz of trumpeter/composer, Josh Deutsch's Pannonia playing live at one of the City's most exciting new spots.
Wrap up the night with a handful of friends in a private room at Karaoke Shout. Pitchers of sangria will be just $20 after 8p on Friday...or stop in before 8p to get 1/2 the price of private rooms.
SATURDAY (colder, cloudy, and windy)
There's a hot, new gastropub in LIC that's worth the trek. They have thirty beers on tap and another hundred or so in the bottle. Before dining, be sure to warm up over some mulled wine in front of their real-live fireplace. Just got the head's up that they're out of mulled wine and their fireplace isn't working. Bummer. Still a cool place worth checking out.
After dinner, walk two blocks to Creekstarter, the king of all comedy shows--this is probably the biggest comedy show in Queens history (over 200 FB attendees). The free marathon stretches from 5p-1a and features over 50 NYC comics--including Matt McCarthy (the redhead Verizon FiOS guy).
SUNDAY (sunny, but freaking cold)
With the recent uptick in assaults, gropings, etc, there's a very timely women's Self-Defense Workshop (followed by mani-pedis) this Sunday.
There's a Bowl For Life Fundraiser for St. Jude's this Sunday afternoon at Astoria Bowl. A $20 donation gets you shoes, three games of bowling, buffet, and (likely 'soft') drinks.
Huge game for Giants fans this Sunday as the G-Men take on the near flawless Packers. Our pick for the game is Dillingers--recently voted the Best Place to Watch Sports by you--and just so happens to normally play host to hoards of both Packers and Giants fans.

Comment by Rita on January 13, 2012 at 3:45pm Gotta say that I went there once and was underwhelmed by the bar staff. It was a slow night and the guy seemed annoyed that we wanted to have a drink... Will try again, maybe his day sucked.
Comment by Rebecca Atwood on January 13, 2012 at 10:38am Seconding the Alewife recommendation. The beer selection is amazing, and the FOOD. Outrageous.
