Also, tickets are almost sold out to March 4th's "Battle of the Boroughs" contest. 10 bands are playing--5 Queens, 5 Brooklyn (and 3 of them are from Astoria). Last year's winner was Astoria's Joe Thompson; let's see if the neighborhood can win it again for the borough! The event is sponsored by WNYC, and tickets include open bar and snacks from Chipotle. Come support Astoria's own and grab a ticket before they're gone.
Looking for a place to pad your stomach before a night out and/or late night eats? Beginning this weekend, password: WLA gets you an instant 20% off on Fridays and Saturdays at Dillingers Pub & Grill.
Fear not, thirsty party-goers, the WLA6K Party has arrived! Our live band karaoke group is already at the Beer Garden rehearsing their entire catalog of rock. We heard that if you sing the right song off-key, Slash or Usher will make an appearance.
As you know, we're treating our members to free food and draft beer from Chelsea Brewing Company--the suds will flow until all eight kegs are tapped. If you haven't RSVP'd yet, stop procrastinating and put your name on the damn list before it's completely booked up--we have nearly 400 already.
"But what if it's raining? I don't want my drinking shirt to get wet..." Don't worry, Patsy, we've got you covered--literally. In anticipation of today's gloom, we installed a giant circus tent over the beer garden. Game on! Avoid the line and get there early for first dibs on the beer and, most importantly, put your name on the live band karaoke list before someone else claims "Baby Got Back".
Tough women from all over the metro area are descending on Astoria, Queens, Saturday morning to compete for the title of "The Queen" at the "Hail to the Queen" Throwdown. Best part: everyone is welcome to watch as they compete in strength and endurance challenges for loads of money and prizes.
After watching all of that action, chill out with some art, live music, a fashion show and silent auction for fab prizes at the Siberian Secret Winter Ball. Tickets are well worth $20 and formal or secret agent attire is strongly encouraged--as it should be.
If you're looking to sweat it out on a dance floor Saturday night, hit up The Bridge - A Lo-Fi Sendoff Party. The bash celebrates DJ Lo-Fi, one of the borough's hottest DJs (and WLA's house DJ for several of our parties--including WLA Birthday Bash?! and WLA4K) before he hits the road for sunny California. Astoria DJ Group will be spinning and mixing all night long, so lets help send him off right!

The overwhelmingly popular new kid in town, Queens Comfort, will be open for brunch this weekend. They're BYO for now, so bring a bottle of champers to spike your OJ. Also, be sure to get there early, because this place is quickly becoming the hottest new restaurant in Astoria.
And whether you plan to stay in or go out for the Oscars, we've got some ideas for you. If you're tired of the Oscar house party scene, check out this The 2011 Academy Awards Party. They'll have music, raffle prizes, drink specials and, of course, their own brand of running commentary that would make Joan Rivers blush.
If you plan to stay indoors, why not toss out the traditional chips and dip and try Sushi for Your Oscar Party. It's sure to be an upgrade from the overcooked pigs-in-a-blanket you were planning to make...
