Why Leave Astoria?!

Winner of Best Street Food 2008, El Rey Del Taco truck is opening a brick and mortar storefront on Steinway. As reported by a reader on Astorians.com, Azteca Pride/El Rey Del Taco will be located across from Popeye's Chicken (near the Pink Mercedes) and will be opening in the next couple of weeks.

Hopefully they won't keep banker's hours like the rest of the Steinway Street merchants. Also, we've been noticing el Rey, himself, has been nowhere to be found on many late nights on 30th Ave. Our hope is that he's been working on getting the store opened and not planning to become a hands-off type of owner when the business picks up like some of the other faceless/tasteless restaurants that make a brief cameo in Astoria.

That's horrible... I was right around the corner from the truck, now it'll be a trek!

The truck will stay (for the time-being). And the truck does deliver (on a bicycle). Their number is: 347-754-2966

where is the truck?
Laura Comment by Laura on February 27, 2009 at 1:44pm
The truck is on 30th Ave. & 33rd Street...conveniently located steps away from my apartment :) I had no idea I'd be so lucky when I signed my lease!

I didn't even expect this to happen. I live 2 blocks away from the pink Mercedes! So those drunkin nights with early daylight are going to be great, if they stay open beyond normal business hours. I just hope they do, along with Rey being there. Chances are though, they'll be raising the prices on somethings.

I agree with Nick....stumbling distance! Looks like the gym will be seeing more of me (literally)

They've opened already. I went there the other day and the food is just as good as it was on the truck. They have a bigger menu too, also I spoke with Rey and he said they'll be closing at 10pm weekdays and 1am usually on Fridays and Saturdays.
