"Tacky Metal Balconies and Horrid Vinyl Siding..."

"...is no historic Brooklyn Brownstone."

The real estate blog, Curbed just posted a piece about an Astoria apartment for sale that "is not ugly"--taking a jab at the local tongue-in-cheek Tumblr, Astoria Ugly. The pen may have been a bit sharp in describing the neighborhood's diverse architecture, but regardless, the place listed (for $1.25M) looks great!

What do you think, Astoria? Are we suffering from uglyarchitecturitis or is our international charm under-appreciated?

I don't like all the new building going up.  I think that blog is overdoing it, in way they are making fun or anything they don't like, and showing people's addresses.

All due respect, but yes, a lot of the newer buildings in Astoria have that horrible, shiny metal balcony thing going.  Looks like Contemporary Greek Tacky - instead of saluting Astoria's Greek culture with Santorini-like colors, and things of that ilk, we get metal balconies and statuary outside of houses (like lions, etc.) along the lines of My Big Fat Greek Wedding ridicule.  The brownstone pictured is actually quite nice, and that metal fencing looks fine.  It's the shiny metal that offends the eyes.
