Egyptian Chef Spices Up the News

Some people turn on CNN, others watch the BBC. We, Astorians are fortunate enough to have a more direct insight into the day-to-day life of the Middle East--and his name is Ali El Sayed.

By no coincidence, we decided to venture down Steinway into Little Egypt for dinner tonight garnished with a sprig of personal insight on a day when protests against Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak have boiled over. Parking was noticeably more difficult on Steinway tonight as every other…

New Steakhouse Opens

After a year of planning, construction, waiting...and waiting, Lucas Steakhouse is finally opening their doors this Friday.

While some choose to avoid new restaurants while the jury is out, we actually prefer the opening days--as you often get larger portions and additional perks while they're trying to win you over!

Our bets are on Lucas as it is owned by the folks behind Locale and almost guaranteed to be hit. They're serving… Continue

Can I Get Some Feta with My Pollo?

"Hmm, Latin or Greek...Latin or Greek. I'll take both!"

The Chicken Shack features a nontraditional fusion of South American/Latin and Greek--representative of two of most prominent international cultures in Astoria. Order arroz con pollo or grape leaves and you won't be disappointed.

Their menu is very diverse--something I tend to be turned off by--as it's very difficult for a restaurant to focus on several different dishes and maintain the same level of quality. However,… Continue
