Fashion or Faux Pas

You can be Marilin Monroe all the time or you can consider this an unsuccessful student project. Either way it's fun and shouldn't be taken too seriously. It's only fashion after all! I am all about experimenting! Sometimes it's fun, sometimes ridiculous, but isn't that what creativity is all about? I offer full support and encouragement for these first year fashion sartorialists from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts - Artesis Hogeskool Antwerpen. This skirt project is called "Denim Dreams" and… Continue

Astoria Resident to Be Featured Competitor on ABC TV Show

The problem with being the Managing Editor of a website that covers Astoria and its residents is that when a story involves me, an Astoria resident, I feel a little guilty for writing it.

So, instead of giving myself a complex, I'll just let the Queens Gazette tell you the story:…

Tonight, Mon., June 29th, Powell and I are holding auditions for the LionHearted Players sketch comedy troupe! What a Month June has been!

What a month June has been! It's sadness (A goodbye to The King of Pop, MJ; and then Charlie's Angel, Farrah.)

Or euphoria! (At the beginning of the month Powell and I said Hello! to the granddaddy of reality TV, Chuck Barris of the Gong Show celebrating an 80th Birthday); and then I met Melissa Gilbert, all grown up from Little House; and then chatted with radio/TV personality Wendy Williams!

And tonight, Monday, June 29th, Powell and I are holding auditions for the LionHearted… Continue

2 Girls Selling Christmas Trees

Have you noticed the sign on 30th Ave. and 33rd St. that says "2 Girls Xmas Trees"? We have, too, but tonight, the sign became animated as we were accosted by one of said girls. And of course, I mean accosted in the most convivial, festive of ways.

"Gude eeveneeng, ello! Wood you liek to buy a Cheezmaz tree?"

You try to say no to that! I don't even decorate for Christmas and I ended up with two 6' Frazier Furs...

Huge Improvement Being Made to Astoria Park

We had to bite our tongue for 24-hours in anticipation of this morning's surprise announcement that the abandoned diving pool in Astoria Park will be converted into an outdoor performance stage! Local organizations such as the Astoria Performing Arts Center, the Astoria Symphony Orchestra, and Astoria Music & Arts will likely be some of the first to call the stage home.

I'm Smitten with Astoria: the land of the veggies!

Mama always told me to eat my veggies and lately, I’ve really taken it to heart. Although I always loved the green stuff, I’m making it more of a habit to eat veggie style these days. Astoria’s vegetable markets make that dream a reality.

Astoria is the first place I’ve felt ‘at home’ since moving from LA 4 years ago. Before I moved east I lived 5 blocks from the beach, sunbathed at least 4 days a week, and…

The Calamity before the Storm... or How a Northwesterner Handled His First Hurricane

A former Seattleite meets his first official hurricane head on. Sort of. How I made the transition from rainfall to landfall.

First, suffice it to say that in spite of living in the NY Metro Area for upwards of 7 years, and even more recently becoming a tried and true New Yorker under a more precise…
