Those in favor of the program (which began in 2008) have often found the lack of distribution to be a bit of a shortcoming.

On Monday (Valentine's Day), the DOH released a…

I'm Smitten with Astoria- Cream

Growing up, my family was big into sweets. A meal was not complete unless it was followed by something sugary. As I grew, so did my sweet tooth. My Dad used to tell me- the way to your heart- is through the dessert.

A naughty smile crossed my lips the day I discovered the posh cupcake trend had come to Astoria.…

This Weekend in Astoria (02/10/11)

To celebrate Valentine's Day, we've put together a couple of exclusive discounts you won't find anywhere else.

First, we recommend picking up a gift for that special someone at one of Astoria's premiere boutiques. They're knocking off $5 for every $20 you spend--not bad. Have a WLA Card from last year? They're still honoring it--save another 10% on top of…

New Astoria Tshirts...in Manhattan

An eagle-eyed Astorian spotted this tshirt today in Manhattan on the shelves of the Converse store in SoHo. Though it requires breaking the assumed Queens > Manhattan embargo, we suggest an investment in one of these.

Streets Not Plowed, Despite Alternate Side Parking Rules

Anyone with the (mis)fortune of driving in Astoria understands the anxiety felt by the City's strict Alternate Side Parking rules. On many residential streets in Western Queens, drivers who leave their cars parked on the same side of the street for the two days set aside for street cleaning get smacked with a $45 fine.

While alternating sides is arduous for residents who arrive home late or drive infrequently, this rule has some benefits--as it…

But on a quiet residential stretch of 27th St. between Ditmars and 21st Ave. bordering the east side of St. John's Prep, we found a cache of eye-opening surprises.…
