Hi fellow WJs of Astoria!

My wife and I are hosting a Seder here in Astoria on the first night, Monday the 25th. A friend had to bag out at the last minute...leaving us with one free seat (we have 10 seats total). If you're in need of a place to go the first night, please don't hesitate for a moment to reach out. We do a real-deal Seder, with great food, terrific discussion, and a motley group of friends. We'd love to have you join us, no strings attached. Just email me at as219 at yahoo dot com. And hag sameach in advance!

Hi everyone!
I just wanted to send a reminder about the Purim party coming up this Saturday, Feb 23rd starting at 6:30 pm. It will be a fun-filled evening starting with Purim Play festivities followed by a live band.
We are still looking for volunteers for the shpiel! The only time commitment would be a mini rehearsal about a half hour before the event. If interested, please email me at tayzikovich@gmail.com. Previous shpiel experience not required.
For the food, we aren't looking for a full potluck dinner, but are asking people to bring drinks and/or snacks to munch on given the time frame. You can let Mor know when you RSVP and get his address at mormez@gmail.com.
Costumes welcome but not obligated :-)
Also, we will be collecting donations for the soup kitchen at Mor's, so please feel free to bring your items on Saturday or to the next Shabbat and potluck (details coming in next email). We will be collecting toiletries (particularly soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes and deodorant), socks, shirts, coats, etc. that you no longer use.
Thank you!

Community Service Opportunity

HUC's rabbinical school runs a soup kitchen in the West Village, near West 4th street. We are going looking for 5 or 6 volunteers on Monday, February 18th (Presidents Day Weekend). We will be leaving from Astoria and going together via subway to the kitchen at 2:45pm and we will start work at 4:15pm. We will help serve clients and get an information session about the clients they serve. We may go to dinner after depending on interest. To RSVP email eelizpaul2@hotmail.com. Please make sure you can be available from 2:45 to 7. They count on us to run that day so only RSVP if you are sure.

PURIM
We will be celebrating Purim the night of Saturday, February 23rd, starting at 6:30 pm. Mor has generously offered to host - we will be doing a Purim shpiel (a play) and including a "half-time" performance show. If you're interested in performing in the shpiel and/or your own performance for the half-time show, please email me at tayzikovich@gmail.com. To RSVP, you can email Mor at mormez@gmail.com

We are gauging interest in starting a WJOA book club, where we read a book related to Judaism in some way (Jewish author, Jewish characters, Jewish theme, etc.). Options would be meeting for a couple hours one weekend day every few weeks, or even once a month, and discuss the book we choose to read. We could gather at someone's home, or in a cafe in Astoria. Please email Jonah at jonah.schrogin@gmail.com and let him know your preferences!

We are working on planning some upcoming happy hours (updates will be coming soon!). If you're interested in helping with planning/organizing, please email Adena at adenardershowitz@gmail.com
