Blissful Bedrooms Fundraiser

A February Fundraiser for Blissful Bedrooms will be hosted Tomorrow at the Z Hotel in Long Island City. Because of city cutbacks, many non-profit organizations that receive funds from their local representatives will have to rely more on direct fundraising from the community. This is a great opportunity to give back locally.

Because of the State Law requirements of county committee organizations, a meeting of the entire Queens committee held its biennial re-organization meeting to elect the chairman of the county. This meeting fell on the date normally reserved for the Astoria District club meeting, so a September meeting of general membership and new members was cancelled and the next meeting will be in October. I'll be sitting with the district leaders and also the Queens Young Republican delegation in the hopes of organization a young professionals social event in October as well. In the meantime, please consider asking WLA friends who are Republican to join our group.

Paul, I'd love to sit and chat. I had limited space for a description, so I just wanted something that will cross the vast spectrum of right-leaning thinkers.

There's already the existing Frank Kenna Club of Astoria, which is the district club that meets the last Tuesday of every month. I can send you the details. I've been put in charge of recruitment of young professionals, so we can expand activity in the neighborhood and provide a vast network of events and outreach.

And thanks for the suggestion on donating to the local library. That does sound like a great idea.

Wonderful idea for a group, Daniel, especially including it on WLA. Good job!

1. Suggestion: Where your description reads, "politically active with fellow libertarian to conservative Republicans," would you consider adding Tea Partiers, and consider moving libertarians to position 3 (i.e., fellow conservative Republicans, Tea Partiers, and libertarians)? Including Tea Partiers is not a minor point (they are the future of the GOP), and deëmphasizing libertarians is not, imho, a bad idea.

2. Any meet-ups planned soon?

3. I'd like to invite the group to donate conservative best-sellers to the Astoria public library on 31st and Ditmars. It would be a fantastic way to thread ourselves into the community, spread goodwill, support a good institution that is in danger of a huge budget cut presently, and make sure quality conservative literature is available to Astorians who cannot afford to buy new books. Anyone can donate books (just drop them off); but if we do it as a group, we can get an Astoria GOP nameplate inserted in the cover of all donated materials. Reach out to me if you have questions about this.

Right now its petition season for party leadership. You can become part of the county committee organization by emailing AstoriaGOP@gmail.com.
As a county committee representative you will become a voice in defining the Republican Party in your neighborhood.

Our focus is to:
1. Increase republican presence by connecting with local civic, religious, business and other community based organizations and groups.
2. Open a dialog with our neighbors so we may identify key issues that are most important to the Astoria Republican voter.
3. Search and find the best possible candidates to run for public office.
4. Promote the Astoria brand of Republican so we may increase voter registration and encourage voters to vote for our candidates.

If you would like to help increase our presence in our neighborhood, email AstoriaGOP@gmail.com.
