Why Leave Astoria?!

Hello! I am new to WLA, but I am not new to tennis and would love to get some intermediate, or advanced players together in the early evenings on a regular basis. I'm a 24 year old guy who used to be really good in high school (and went to college and became a smoker), and I am mainly just interested in playing with someone who wants to run around a bit, make me run around a bit, and enjoy some fun exercise.

What I would like to see - a group of 5 - 10 players who can commit to 1 of 2 nights a week (probably Tuesday and Thursday), so we can either get some rotating singles play, or some awesome doubles at Astoria Park.

Also I am a teacher, and I used to coach tennis to elementary kids when I was in high school, so if you are looking to improve your game lets get out there and work it out, play a couple sets, or just hit around!

C'mon folks - the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, less, so lets get out there and whack some balls! Post a reply and lets start a discussion about this.

I am definitely in for this... Our organizer, Gregg, will surely set something up soon. Otherwise, PM me if you need an evening or weekend partner. I can play from 5 PM to close. I am 3.5 to 4.0 player.

I would be up to play once a week and I consider myself an itermediate player (3.5-4.0). I played on my high school team and have played here and there in the years since, but nothing too intense at all.

Laura: Let's get this happening then! Next week would be best for me. Can you play on weekdays?

Excellent! Lets keep communicating on this message board so everyone can see when everyone is able and going to play. Anytime after 5 is great, especially now that the sun is staying out longer. Rock and roll!

Yes, I can play on weekdays. Wed. and Thurs. nights are probably best although I don't think I can start this week, as already have plans both nights. The following week should work though.

Hey Laura.. I'm pretty busy this week. Next week okay? Also, I think there will be a gathering at Astoria Park at 9 AM on Saturday but I haven't heard of word from the organizer of this group yet.

Is anyone interested in playing on weekends at all?

I'm around this Sunday, and would love to play a bit -- other weekends I'm more flexible and usually I can do Saturday as well.

I'm thinking sometime around 10 - 11, although I'm flexible.

I'm an advanced beginner/lower level intermediate --played a bit as a kid, through high school and then sporadically ever since.
Thanks!
Irene

I will be going to Astoria Park Wednesday around 4:30, 5 to see if anyone is around wanting to play. I would also like to play today (Tuesday) but it does not appear that the weather will hold out. If it does, I may see some of you at the park around 6. Holla!

I may be able to make it at 5 but I can't guarantee it. I will look for you if I do. See ya!

Hey Matt,

That sounds great! I would love to get some singles games going, tuesday and thursday work for me. I used to play tennis in Middle and High School but stopped when I moved to NYC (didnt have the time!). I would consider myself intermediate.

Anyone up for this thursday evening? OR I would also be interested in doing weekend mornings.

Katie
