I'd say go to a pro shop and try a bunch. Many stores (including the USTA shop in Flushing Meadows) have testing programs that allow you to borrow one or more rackets and then you can decide. Good luck!

I agree. I drove out to my friend's pro shop in Huntington just yesterday to demo 10+ rackets and finally decided on one. My budget was a a little bit more, and I ultimately purchased the Head Youtek Speed MP ($200). His store has an online shop if you're interested, and he strings for free when you buy the racket.

They are the pro shop from the LIC-based tennis club, Tennisport.

If not there, the other store is Paragon Sports in Union Square. They also have a demo program but they have a pretty stuck-up attitude, not that it matters that much.

Thanks for the suggestions. happend by a modells and swung a bunch around, but then got frustrated and then happened to stop by target and a bunch were on clearance, a head pct pro elite was 35 bucks, and after my phone told me that they typically sell for 60+, and it felt pretty good to swing, picked that up. and then a guy who was selling his called me back, met up with him and tried his racquets and bought his prince precision specturm which felt good and was only 30 bucks with a new grip. So now i've got two to play with and see which feels better. perhaps i'll shell out a bit more when i've become more regular in playing. speaking of which, anyone around astoria heights playground and want to volley around this week?
