So jealous of your adorable dogs. Wish I could have one...we have a stupid hairless cat in our house. Ugh.

My heart is broken.

My 8 year old Bichon has cataracts. He is using his back paws to swat at his eyes as though he were trying to take off whatever is keeping him from seeing clearly. I am so afraid he will eventually scratch an eye.

Vet tells me he can see shadows in high-light conditions. I have glaucoma and have lived in low-light conditions for 5 years.

I researched veterinarians and then their clinics. I printed out the list of NY State Board Certified Veterinary Ophthalmologists and marked off the areas close enough to travel to. There are only four of them. One of them is the Animal Medical Center in Manhattan. Their (non-profit) fee for each eye is $3,900. I am on Social Security. They may as well have said $3,900,000,000! My fixed living expenses will go way up if he is diabetic . . . and I am so needle phobic!

I am sooooo open to and guidance, advice and/or suggestions.

Please post pictures of your dogs... If you chose the "thumbnail" option, the pic will be in the correct proportion (don't know why the system elongates regular pics the way that it does in these bbs)
