The first one was AMAZING and it can only get better.
Come on out to Bar Bizaare. This place is so cool and normally I would be there on the first and third Thursday but my dear friend Valerie (who will be performing next week) made a switch with me just this once. You'll have to come out next we to hear her as well.

The drinks are perfectly poured, the food is out of this world and the people... meet them and you'll love them just as much as I do.

Bar Bizaare stands on the corner of 35th. Avenue and 36th. Street. There is a fantastic menu, a wonderful drink selection in an ultra comfortable space and now, live music.

Bar Bizaare:
3501 36th St
Astoria, NY 11106

It's free.

No problem. Is there any function for moving the prior comments to a discussion page?

@ John: For the sake of organization, could we please move this discussion to the forum above?

Sitka, You are absolutely correct. I have seen the march of gentrification in many neighborhoods over my 33 years, usually from artist/hipster to gay to yuppie. I have been spending time in Astoria since childhood (my dad had his office on Ditmars Boulevard), and don't mind the influx of different ethnic groups. My main problem with the hipsters/yuppies is that they homogenize every neighborhood they move into and kill the local character.

Its interesting that Williamsburg (which WAS better in some ways when it was an Italian/Puerto Rican/Hasid/black lower middle class enclave) gentrified before Astoria, being that the housing stock and quality of life has always been better here than in W'burg. I guess it was only a matter of time. What amazes me is that 1. when a nabe is "discovered" folks seem to move en mass with all of their friends and 2. most of the newcomers are not even from the New York area.

So since membership has tripled (thanks Nyrn!) who would be interested in scheduling a meet-up?

@ John: That is absolutely an appropriate topic! I'm not familiar with old or new school Astoria, so this will be great enlightenment =]

To John: - I am new to the area.... so, not sure if my comment counts.... but in other areas where I have lived.... that type of influx always changes everything. The old world Ditmars that I just moved into.... I would hate to see change.....
