new fork needed!

i need to replace the suspension fork on my '01 Litespeed Tsali.  I've been out of the cycling loop for awhile and have no idea what the latest crop of forks are like.  anyone have a suggestion for a good replacement?  I ride mostly pavement but occasionally need enough travel for technical XC.  and what are the good shops in Astoria/LIC for working on bikes?

thanks, I'll check 'em out!  still need to buy a new fork first.
