It is ALMOST true that Astoria has it all. Why Leave Astoria, you ask? One of the few reasons is to get out there and hike!
The Hudson Valley offers amazing opportunities to get some fresh air, a little workout, and a respite from urban life- much of it accessible via Metro North, or if we are lucky- carpooling.
I will organize some hiking excursions, and I invite anyone who wants to organize a group event to do so as well. This will be a great venue to meet some fun, active Astorians! Invite your friends!

Comment by Lynne C on January 4, 2013 at 9:22am Hi JM- Welcome to the group! so the group is kinda new, though we've been on about 5 hikes and they were super fun! Anyways, things hiking-wise will be a bit slow because of the winter, but I'm trying to get the group together for skiing and local events. Keep checking back at the website. I haven't figured out how to have members get automatic emails regarding updates. You can also check in at www.astoriahikers.blogspot.com. So far, I'm thinking of a ski day on January 12th and a Allman Bros and Brews day at the new Singlecut Brewery in Astoria on the 26th. Hope to see you at one of our future events! Thanks again for your interest. :)

Comment by Lynne C on October 13, 2012 at 6:02pm Great first hike for the Astoria Hikers Group! The leaves were gorgeous, no traffic, the people on the trail were friendly, and couldn't have asked for better weather- not a cloud in the sky! Thanks Beth and Alex for coming, and thanks Jess for making the effort! It was nice meeting some fellow Astorians :)
Hopefully this is just the beginning of more hiking and outdoors-related events to come!
