Why Leave Astoria?!

I've noticed UFC on at Applebees by the UA Cinema, but I'm sure there are better locations. The Zone, maybe...or McCann's?

McCann's doesn't charge a cover (usually just a two drink minimum). Other than that, you're going somewhere in Manhattan and probably paying a cover/surrounding yourself with douchebags. They always list all the sports bars showing an event on the UFC website.

Of course, you can always get together with friends and order it and split the cost.

McCann's is on Broadway at the train right?

McCann's is on Ditmars a few blocks east of 31 St.

*I feel compelled to note here that the NY Post declared Ultimate Fighting "OUT" for '09 and Gotham Girls Roller Derby "IN"!

While I did go to the UFC's Newark show in November 07 (and there's Ring of Combat based out of south Jersey), MMA is currently still banned in NY state. But the UFC and other lobbyists are continuously pushing for it. An UFC in MSG would be huge. And of course the NY Post would refer to mixed martial arts as "ultimate fighting."

As for those Friday Night Fights boxing/Muay Thai events, I've been meaning to check one of those out.

And I had friends involved with the Long Island Roller Rebels. You roller derby girls are crazy. And I mean that with the utmost respect.

I take that as a compliment (and agree with you)!! You gotta come see NYC roller derby - I think even the Roller Rebels would agree it's the best derby in the nation... I'm in awe of so many of the girls I skate with - they are incredible!

p.s. - i signed the petition to legalize MMA in NY State through one of those links I posted... just lemme know which legislator we gotta rough-up to make this happen... fuggetaboutit
