The Sparrow Cubed Film Festival strikes again! 3 times a charm, eh?
We've enjoyed everyone's participation thus far and are thrilled to have ya'll get behind the lens and make some movie magic again. Thank you for your feedback and criticism: with it, we can continue to shape this communal event into something truly great. I have taken on the role of lead creative administrator to ensure we have a fair and smoothly run competition and festival. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me via the 'I Go To Sparrow' facebook page.
So, let's get 'er done! Sign up is this Sunday, January 31st, starting at 8pm at Sparrow Tavern (24-01 29st). The concept of drawing titles is as before, with a twist. Each person/team to sign up will write two original titles on separate pieces of paper. They will fold them up and toss them into my "Mayor Grover Wilson" tophat. Sign up will close at 10:30pm and at 11pm each team will draw one paper- the title on that paper is the title of that team's film. There will be second "hat" from which each team will draw a genre, i.e. Horror, Comedy, etc. From that point, the film makers have 3 weeks to create, shoot and complete a film that cannot be more than 3 minutes in length, including credits. (We reserve the right to exclude titles as we sit fit- even though we like a well-made porn like anyone else, we've recieved some titles that, hmmm, just might be offensive to some.) The entry fee is $20 and is due at the time of sign up. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS- if you don't have the cash, you can't enter. And I'm really mentioning this to the bar regulars, you hear?? ALSO, if you are not there during sign-up hours or don't have someone to sign up in your stead with the entry fee, you cannot enter, NO EXCEPTIONS.
I have selected a panel of 5 judges whose credentials are specifically related to the realm of filmmaking, some from as far away as Los Angeles and London. Their names and bios will be made available the night of the awards ceremony which will be held approximately 1 1/2 weeks after the films are due (Feb. 21!). After many days attempting to come up with a proper system of criteria by which the jugdes could vote for Best Film, I decided that the breadth of this fest is so wide and includes an array of participants, some whom would consider themselves amateur film makers as well as those who would consider themselves professionals in the field, that the criteria needs to remain simple and true to the event's original intent. So, here it is: How effectively do the filmmakers tell their story according to the title and genre they've drawn? Each judge will rate each film on a 5 star scale, 1 being the lowest, 5 the highest. Each of the films will be made available on our youtube.com account and will be screened for the public at Sparrow the week of February 21st.
More specific information regarding the screenings and awards ceremony will be made available on Sign Up night. I'll be there handling the entry process.
I hope to see you!
a.k.a. Mayor Wilson.
