Event Description

On Saturday, December 4th, approximately 100 residents of Astoria and Long Island City will strip and “streak” local residents in a holiday-themed run supporting two local charities.

The “Santa Streak“ is a one-mile non-competitive run in which participants must wear only Speedos or similarly revealing holiday costumes. Organized by Astoria’s social organization, Why Leave Astoria?!, the run is the first of its kind to be held in New York City and is inspired by Boston’s wildly-popular Santa Speedo Run.

Registration will take place at the local bar, Hellgate on the Park, where each runner will donate a gently used coat or canned food items as their entry into the run. The donations will be given to NY Cares or City Harvest charities respectively.

The Santa Streak will shut down Shore Blvd to thru traffic beginning at 11:45am, when participants will be ushered to the corner of Ditmars Blvd. and Shore Blvd. There, they will strip down to their Speedos and costumes to begin the run at 12pm sharp. The NYPD will escort the runners down Shore Blvd. and beneath the community’s iconic Hellgate Bridge as they make their way to the “finish line” at the local bar, Hellgate Social, where they’ll celebrate the chilly dash with a private post-event holiday party.
